今日、子どもの入院は患児本人だけでなく、きょうだいの心身の成長発達にも影響を及ぼすことが明らかにされ、支援の重要性が認識されている。しかし、入院している子どものきょうだいに対する具体的な支援には至っていない現状である。そこで本研究は、きょうだい、家族及び医療者に対して質問紙調査及び長期入院患児の家族数例に面接調査を行い、地方の小児病棟におけるきょうだい支援に関する実態を把握する。その結果をもとに、きょうだい支援に対するモデルケースを数例定めて、きょうだいや家族のニーズにあわせた支援方策を実施し、その有効性について評価することを目的とする。本研究は3ヶ年にわたり、今年度は一昨年実施した調査をもとに、きょうだい支援に対するモデルケースへの支援を行った。大学看護研究倫理委員会に提出し、承認を受けた上で、きょうだいを支援するボランティアバンクを立ち上げ、自宅に残されたきょうだいに対して、孤独感が癒されるよう、学生ボランティアを導入して日々の遊びや学習への支援を行った。2か月の関わりであったが、きょうだいは学生と触れあう中で、自分の思いを表出するようになり、家族が不在でも笑顔で遊びや学習をして待っていることができるようになった。また、家族の意向を聞いてプログラムを立て、夏休みと冬休みにきょうだいが入院中またはきょうだいの入院経験がある子どもを対象にレクリエーションインストラクターの講師を招いて、きょうだいの会を実施した。最初は仲間の輪に入っていけないきょうだいが見られたが、学生が1対1で関わることで、思い切り身体を使って遊んで、楽しむことができていた。ボランティアで関わった学生にとっても、きょうだいについて考える機会となり、実際に子どもに触れる貴重な経験となっていた。
