X線を効率よく撮像分光するCCD素子を開発した。空乏層が厚く、裏面照射型で、いろいろなX線を検出できる。画素の大きさも色々あり、エネルギーの高いX線に対しては偏光情報も得られる。さらにSDCCDを導入し、名古屋大学と共同で気球観測装置を完成させた。CCDの高速低雑音読み出しを簡素化する目的で、アナログASICを開発した。これらの技術やノウハウを使い、すざく衛星を利用して宇宙高温プラズマの研究を進めた。
