2005年末の国際心肺蘇生法ガイドラインの改訂に伴い、「AEDを使う心肺蘇生法」を改訂させ、前年に引き続き市民公開講座を行った。栃木県内で初めて小児と乳児への心肺蘇生法を網羅したことで、幼稚園・保育園や小学校の教員を含む多くの参加者は「AEDを使う心肺蘇生法」を実技練習できた。AED設置が急速に進んでいる一方で、自らが「AEDを使う心肺蘇生法」を行わねばならないという認識が薄かったことや、そのことへの危惧も感じていることが共有された。AED収納ボックスに液晶ディズプレーを備えることで、一般市民の認識を向上させる効果が期待された。また、医療従事者向けにはBasic Life Supportトレーニングを継続し、2005年は約170名、2006年は500名を越えた。医療従事者への普及の過程で、「獨協医大病院でのAED使用の現状」を報告した。2004年8月から設置し始め、現在、計20台のAEDを常設している。院内設置後2年間にAEDが使用されたのは16例であった。このうちの9例が除細動の適応であったが、除細動までに要した時間は中央値で8分であり、使用者は1例の看護師を除いてすべて医師であった。除細動適応9例のうち1例のみが、看護師による2分以内の除細動で救命された。それ以外は、癌末期や重度脳血管障害の基礎疾患があり、AEDの要請を躊躇していた。全国でのウツタイン登録2005年データが集計され、院外心肺停止102,707例の救命率の概要が明らかにされた。 2005年から県民運動として普及させ始めていた岩手県では、ウツタイン登録データは開示されなかった。一方、栃木県内の1,896例と全国平均の救命率はそれぞれ、一般市民による目撃のある場合、栃木県3.6%に対し全国平均7.1%、その場に居合わせた市民による心肺蘇生法が行われた場合、栃木県4.5%に対し全国平均8.5%、救急隊の到着時間が3分以内の場合、栃木県5.6%に対し全国平均11.0%、除細動の適応がある場合、栃木県9.3%に対し全国平均17.5%であった。すべての要因で栃木県内の院外心肺停止の救命率は、全国平均の半分であり、残念な結果となった。
