Purpose of this research is to propose a mobility support network architecture for broadband communications such as real-time streaming. The architecture includes supporting not only mobile nodes but also mobile networks connecting many nodes. We obtained the following results.(1) Design and development of protocols for mobile networksWe had proposed IP mobility support architecture MAT (Mobile IP with Address Translation) for mobile nodes. We extended the MAT for mobile networks. The proposed architecture allows mobile networks connecting (i) legacy nodes (non-MAT nodes), (ii) mobile nodes (MAT nodes), and (iii) mobile networks.(2) Implementation of a prototype systemWe implemented a prototype system of the proposed network architecture on PC UNIX (Linux) operating system. We have confirmed that the system works well in a broadband environment. The prototype system was able to handover between different networks transferring HDTV picture data about 30Mbps.(3) Experimentation and demonstrationThe proposed architecture increases reliability using multiple IMS's (IP Address Mapping Servers) which manage current network addresses of the corresponding mobile nodes and/or networks. We verified the mechanism using the prototype system on the test bed network JGN2. We also demonstrated the prototype system at exhibition of various symposiums.
