地球表層の物質を対象とする汎用性の高い新しい年代測定手法を取り入れ,複数の年代測定の長所を集めて,高度な表層地質の年代決定を行った.地球環境変動・自然災害予測の研究にこの高度な年代決定手法を応用し近未来予測精度の向上を実現した.さらに,地域と環境に応じた地球環境変動と自然災害の履歴解明の手法を火山灰,沖積低地,サンゴ礁,変動地形などを対象に体系化し,普遍的な適用の方法を検討した.
