The purpose of this project is to develop a three-dimension visualizing system to show the long-term historical trends of trade. The technology of computer graphics and the facilities of the internet will be used to bring together and display data linking a wide range of countries and goods. The basic trade data for the period 1947-2000 have been derived from the United Nations' Yearbook of international trade statistics. The visualizing system developed for this project employs two tools : one transfers trade data compiled using spreadsheet applications like Excel to standard XML format for universal use, and the other is a plug-in browser software for handling and viewing three-dimensional data.

本计画的目的是发展一个三维的可视化系统，以显示贸易的长期历史趋势。计算机图形技术和互联网设施将用于汇集和显示连接广泛国家和商品的数据。1947-2000年期间的基本贸易数据来自联合国《国际贸易统计年鉴》。为该项目开发的可视化系统采用两种工具：一种是将使用Excel等电子表格应用程序编制的贸易数据转换为通用的标准XML格式，另一种是用于处理和查看三维数据的插件浏览器软件。
