細胞外マトリックスは細胞接着をはじめ器官形成、神経網再生、血管新生やがんの増殖転移などの様々な生命現象や病態に深く関わっている。細胞外マトリックスの主役的な巨大分子であるラミニンの細胞接着活性部位を組換えタンパクと1000種類以上の合成ペプチドを用いて同定し、それぞれの活性部位の細胞膜上のレセプターや様々な生物活性を解析し、さらにはそれらのペプチドを用いた創薬や再生医療への応用研究を行った。
