繊毛虫Paramecium属とその核内共生細菌Holospora属を野外採集し, 世界分布図に棲息が確認された場所をプロットすることを目的とし, 北欧(フィンランド, スウェーデン, ノルウェー)とその周辺国(エストニア, ロシア), 中国, ブラジル及びオーストラリアで現地協力者の協力を得て採集を行った。その結果, オーストラリアとブラジルで, P. caudatum, P. aurelia species, P. bursaria, 及び, 新種と思われるP. bursaria類似の細胞を採集したが, Holospora維持細胞は採集できなかった
