「天聖令」、『唐会要』、『新唐書』など中国史料の基礎的研究を土台に、日唐の賤民制の比較研究を行い、特に官賤民の唐令規定の復原や、奴婢売買規定の比較分析による唐日奴婢制の特質解明において大きな成果を挙げることができた。その主要な成果は、上海と東京で行われた国際学会で発表すると共に、単著『唐王朝と古代日本』、共著の『日唐律令比較研究の新段階』及び『唐宋法律史論集』の出版により公表することができた。
