(1)IFEL保健体育部門で行われた講義内容および参加者によって作成された研究収録の内容から、IFELにおける体育科教育法の内容および指導法がどのようなものであったかを考察した。具体的には、まず、戦前から戦後にかけて継続的に日本の学校体育界の指導的立場にあった人物の体育理念や教授法を整理した。また、IFELにおいて体育科教育法を体系化するための基となる知識や課題がどのように把握されていたのかを整理した。これらの作業の結果、IFELにおいてまとめられた体育科教育法は、体育実践・計画のための理論的研究に主眼が置かれており、他教科との関連や学校外での体育活動に対する研究が不十分であったことが明らかとなった。ここで得られた知見は、占領期の体育政策の到達点と課題およびその後の体育科教育研究の進展を分析するうえで需要であると考えられる。(2)アメリカの学校体育に関する知見や研究動向が、どのようにIFEL保健体育部門に反映されたのかを明らかにしようとした。まず、IFEL保健体育部門において参加者に提供された洋図書の目録化を行った。次に、IFEL保健体育部門の報告書作成の際に使用された参考図書を和書と洋書別に整理し、その利用と引用の頻度を分析した。さらに、使用頻度の高い洋書の一部を収集し、その内容について整理した。これらの作業の結果、実証するには至らなかったが、アメリカの学校体育に関する知見や研究動向は、IFEL保健体育部門の参加者にとって一定の方向性を示すものとであったと考えられる。(3)IFELにおいて保健体育部門以外で保健体育分野に関連する研究を行った報告書を整理し、テキスト化の作業を行った。また、IFEL保健体育部門実施期間中にGHQ/SCQP・CIEの体育担当官であったW.ニューフェルドのレポート時系列に整理し、各レポートのテキスト化の作業を行った。
