本年度の研究は韓国の近代劇の先駆者である洪海星と築地小劇場の影響関係を中心に行った。洪海星(1894-1957)は韓国最初の演出家であり、韓国近代演劇の先覚者として非常に重要な人物である。特に洪海星は1924年-1929年の間、直接築地小劇場の俳優としても活躍した。そのために洪海星の演劇理論と演出作品に築地小劇場の影響が非常に大きかった。本年度の研究では、洪海星が本格的に韓国近代劇運動を始めた1930年一1935年を中心に、築地小劇場との関係を三つのポイントに基づいて明らかにした。第一は「実際公演と築地小劇場の関係」である。洪海星は韓国の近代劇運動の基盤を築きあげるために築地小劇場の演目をそのまま継承して公演した。洪海星の演出は当時の演劇人たちから肯定的な評価を受けたが、築地小劇場の反復に過ぎないという否定的な評価も少なくなかった。殊に第一回築地小劇場の公演でも話題になった表現主義劇である『海戦』の演出は洪海星の演出方式に関する賛否両論の論争の争点になった。第二は「築地小劇場と洪海星の演出方式」である。洪海星が築地小劇場の演目の中で最も高い評価を得た作品は『検察官』である。しかし、当時の演劇評を詳しく調べれば高い評価の根拠には築地小劇場の方式をそのまま生かした演出方式があげられる。即ち、洪海星の演出方式はただ築地小劇場の演出方式を紹介する程度で満足していたことである。第三は「劇芸術研究会の評価」である。洪海星の演劇活動中にいまだに解けない謎は突然劇芸術研究会を離れて大衆劇の劇団として有名な東洋劇場へ移動したのである。今までは経済的な問題が一番重要な原因として提起されているが、経済的な問題一つだけでは説明されない部分が多い。しかし、洪海星が参加した近代劇運動団体である劇芸術研究会における彼の位置を考えたら非常に簡単に釈明される。劇芸術研究会で洪海星は独創的な演出力を持っている演出家という評価とは程遠かった。単に、築地小劇場の体験を韓国に紹介する役割に過ぎなかった。結局、自由な演劇運動ができない劇芸術研究会を離れて東洋劇場へ移ったのである。
