项目摘要

本年度は、神奈川大学21世紀COEプログラムに研究協力者として参加し、『東海道名所図絵』の事物・人物の動作・衣服などに検索項目を付与していく「絵引き」の作成作業に従事し、試案本として刊行、デジタルデータベースも作成した。近世の名所図絵の画像が、近景・超近景(クローズアップ)・遠景を駆使し、類型的図像ながらも、当時の庶民の姿や身体技法を的確に伝え、見る人々に視覚的な臨場感を与えていた事実を指摘した。なお、近世の挿絵類の図像世界は、明治時代となっても継承されたが、印刷術の革新・写真画像の登場により、庶民の関心を一層ひきつける画風が創り出されていったと考えられ、このようなシェーマを実証中である。明治維新期の「時事錦絵」に関しては、明治7年から8年にかけて東京・大阪で大流行した錦絵新聞を調査し、特に大新聞『東京日日新聞』『郵便報知新聞』引用元とした錦絵新聞約250点を調査し、解説を加えた『文明開化の錦絵新聞』(国書刊行会)を出版した。〈3年間の成果〉研究計画のうち、「計画1、時事風刺的な錦絵作品のデータベース化(資料収集)」は3000点を超え、現在は、石版画・風刺漫画をも含めたものへと充実させつつある。「計画2、時事錦絵資料のPDFファイル化とデータベース作成」は資料を錦絵だけでなく、近世の国絵図など大型の画像資料のデジタルトレス作業により、大きな成果を得た。今後は巨大な画像資料の解読と解析、データベース化に応用が期待できる。「計画3、『時事錦絵』の終焉と近代庶民メディア誕生」については、明治天皇のいわゆる御神影が石版画や錦絵に描かれた事例を収集し、「似顔絵」が風刺漫画や風刺錦絵を誕生させ、全く新しい視覚的感性を生み出した事実を解明中であり、今後論文・研究発表により成果を発表する。総じて、3年間の助成を通し、申請者の画像資料を使用した歴史研究のスキルは確実に向上した。今後も更に高レヴェルの、実証的な歴史民俗資料学・情報歴史学研究が推進できると確信する。
