雑誌『石川県之社会改良」(全17号,2994頁)をデジタル保存することを試み、史資料の散逸と劣化を防ぐとともに、目次から本文を検索する仕組みを整えることで史資料の活用の利便性をいっそう図る目的で『複写版 石川県之社会改良』(CD-R版)を作製した。研究の具体的成果については、社会事業主事の議論の系譜を明らかにした。まずは、石川県の社会事業の議論形成を進めた中心的人物である中田邦造め石川県社会課就任に伴う論文と同時期の中田論文に焦点をあて大正後期に社会事業に関わった人として「社会」や「人」に対してどのような認識をしていかを分析し、そのことが社会事業とどのように繋がっていたのかについて考察した。そして、中田邦造を石川県にむかえた人物と、中田の精神を引継いだ社会事業主事の議論の系譜を明らかにした。静岡県出身で同志社大学卒の赤堀郁太郎は、留学先のアメリカで宗教哲学から社会事業へと関心を転回させ、大阪府社会主事の経験をした後に石川県の初代社会課長に就任し、生活統制や人生の積極的意義を論じている。そして滋賀県出身で京都大学大学院中退の中田邦造は、赤掘によって石川県に向かい入れられ赤堀の議論を発展させ社会生活の積極的意義を論じるなかで自覚的社会人や目覚した自己を説いている。その内容としての社会事業を議論すると共に、そこに生命の尊重や社会的自覚が根底にあることを指摘している。加えて、自己と他者の相互理解においては、互いの立場の違いを認めつつも目己の立揚を変えることで自他が理解できる存在であることを論じた。そして、それらの議論は3人目の社会事業主事であった打尾忠治に引継がれ、社会事業の内容として女性と社会事業や農村社会事業を提起し、中田の論じた社会事業をさらに具体的に展開しようとした。しかしながら厚生事業が展開される時期には、新たに社会事業主事が着任するが軍事援護事業についての紹介がなされるものの、それまでの社会事業の議論との運続性はみられない。今後の課題として、社会事業主事に加え社会改良委員(後の方面委員)が社会事業から厚生事業にかけてどのような役割と活動を果たしたかを追究することである。
