项目摘要

本研究は,20世紀初頭に活躍したイギリスの都市計画家バトリック・ゲデスの,インドにおける都市計画の理念と計画手法を明らかにし,さらにゲデスの都市計画とインドの近代都市形成との関連を検証することを目的としている。19年度は,これまで収集したゲデスによるインドにおける都市計画報告書(インディア・レポート)の分析を引き続き継続した。また,ゲデスが滞在した当時,バローダ藩王国の首都であった,グジャラート州のヴァローダラ(旧名バローダ)を対象として,ゲデスが作成した報告書"A Report on the Development and Expansion of the City of Baroda by Prof. Patrick Geddes",1916をもとに,ゲデスの計画地区の特定,計画の実施状況,都市構成,施設配置の現状等に関する臨地調査を実施した。ゲデスの報告書において,都市の地図を示して,実際の計画範囲,計画事項等を明示している例は少なく,バローダの事例は重要である。スールサーガル湖周辺地区,および東西南北の2本の大通りによって4つに分割されたヴァローダラ旧市街の南西ブロックにて調査を行い,旧市街の街路幅の拡幅や,袋小路を繋げて通過街路とするなどの,Conservative Surgery(保存的外科手術)と呼ばれる計画が,実際にかなりの計画箇所において,実施,実現されていることが明らかになった。
