本研究課題の目的は、コーパス・データベースを利用して、言語における「反復」の用法と機能について研究し、明らかにすることである。まず、脚韻という音韻的反復に基づく押韻俗語(rhyming slang)と呼ばれる表現を研究し、その成果を体系的にまとめた。さらに、同一語句の繰り返しである語句反復についてテクストにおける実際の使用例に基づいてその用法と機能を考察した。具体的には、(1)各ジャンルのテクストにおける語句反復の用法に関する特徴を抽出し、その機能について考察した。(2)異なるジャンルのテクストにおける反復の用法の違いを基にして、ジャンル間における語句反復の用法に関する示差的特徴について分析した。(3)英語と日本語のテクストにおける語句反復の使用例とその機能の違いについて考察した。特に、同じ意味内容を伝える翻訳等の複数のテクストの比較により、英語と日本語の言語間での語句反復の用法と機能の違いを考察した。
