A Study on Syntactic and Semantic Conditions on Ellipsis

当语言学家考虑对自然语言中省略结构的解释时，他们必须澄清语言使用者能够系统地为省略位置产生适当意义的程序。我从句法和语义的角度研究了各种省略号，讨论了这个问题。笔者的研究发现，省略位点具有不发音的前形或句法结构，后一种类型的省略结构是由语音成分的删除操作或语义成分的复制操作形成的。

When linguists consider the interpretation of elliptical construction in a natural language, they have to clarify the procedures by which speakers of a language are able systematically to generate appropriate meanings for ellipsis sites. I have discussed this question by investigating various kinds of ellipsis from syntactic and semantic perspectives. My research has revealed that ellipsis sites have unpronounced pro-forms or syntactic structures, and that the latter type of elliptical construction is formed by the deletion operation at the phonological component or the copy operation at the semantic component.
