父系制社会であるマントヒヒの近親交配を回避するメカニズムを検証するために、生息地であるサウジアラビアにおいて、マントヒヒの捕獲および行動観察を行った。採集した血液は日本に持ち帰り、これまでに収集していた約200個体分のサンプルと併せて遺伝子解析を行った。Y染色体上のマイクロサテライトDNAの多型を調べた結果、近隣の群れ間でも、オスの各対立遺伝子の頻度が大きく異なることが明らかになった。このことは、オスの分散が大きく制限されている結果であると考えられ、マントヒヒ社会での近親交配がおこりやすいことを示唆する証拠となった。

Patrilineal society is a society where inbreeding is avoided and where it lives is captured and monitored. About 200 blood samples were collected and analyzed. The frequency of polymorphism of DNA on Y chromosome is different, and the frequency of each pair of DNA is different. The result of this is that inbreeding in the society is difficult.
