中国でパーキンソン病の要因を探る患者対照研究を行った。血中マンガンと血清鉄レベルは、パーキンソン病患者において有意に高かった。血清銅と亜鉛、各令属の食物からの摂取量、血清ビタミンEとB12、各種ビタミン摂取量、各種アミノ酸摂取量の比較では有意な差は認められなかった。血中マンガンおよび鉄の濃度上昇は、飲料水あるいは大気汚染の影響も考えられ、パーキンソン病発症と関係していることが示唆された。
