Despite the advance in pharmacotherapeutics and mechanical interventions, the cardiomyocytes lost during myocardial infarction (MI) cannot be regenerated. Consequently, the loss of cardiomyocytes in MI is a major cause of heart failure. As a potential method, cell transplantation to myocardium has been studied for a decade. Side Population Cell in Skeletal Muscle transplantation could be potential therapy for heart damage in experimentally. However, the safety, efficacy of their transplantation are controversial. In this study, we investigate that whether Side Population' Cell in Skeletal Muscle can be a good cell source. In the present study, we transplanted Side Population Cell in Skeletal Muscle into infracted mouse hearts and investigate that (1) whether engrafted Side Population Cell in Skeletal Muscle improve post infarcted cardiac function, (2) whether Side Population Cell in Skeletal Muscle myoblasts can transdifferentiate into cardiomyocytes in vitro and in vivo.
