项目摘要

東京滞在時はチベット旧社会に関する文献調査を行った。特に夏季の現地調査に備えて『蔵族社会歴史調査』などの中国の調査報告を分析の俎上にのせた。この報告書は1950年代後半に新中国が民族政策行政の必要上から行ったチベットの現状把握のためのものであり、1959年のチベット動乱後に硬直化する中国の教条主義的チベット認識や公式見解からは比較的自由な貴重な資料である。この作業によって1959年以前の中央チベット村落部における行政および社会身分などについて基礎的なデータを得ることができた。7月31日より8月28日にかけては中国のチベット族地域にて現地調査を実施した。主な調査地はチベット自治区ラサ市、メドグンカル県、四川省カンゼ・チベット族自治州バタン県シャサンカ村などである。ラサにおいては旧チベット貴族たちへの聞き取りを行ってチベット旧社会における身分構成についての情報を蓄積した。またメドグンカル地方では上記の調査報告から抽出したデータと現地調査のデータを比較した。結果として従来の中国の公定史観が俗流マルクス主義的歴史記述の要請によってチベット旧社会の社会構成を過度に単純化して理解してしまっていたことが明らかになった。なおこのデータは論文(「ナンセン考」)として『中国研究月報』誌に発表されて高い評価を受け、第4回太田勝洪中国学術研究賞を受賞した。またバタン県シャサンカ村においては鳥葬の創出とその挫折、かまど神の調査などを行った。従来歴史的・生態的な理由(漢族移住の歴史、低地で木材豊富など)から他のチベット地域とは異なった生活様式を持っていたバタンにおいて近年の社会変化がむしろチベット化とでも言うべき現象を推し進めている様が明らかになり、その背景には中国の教育やプロパガンダを通じて広まるチベット言説の「意図せざる効果」(副作用)があったことが示唆された。
