项目摘要

本年度は、前年度の研究成果(対象時期における西南日本一帯の広域編年の樹立と角錐状石器の研究)に基づき、後期旧石器時代後半期初頭にかけて、瀬戸内地方の国府石器群との関係下で、古本州島の広範囲に展開した国府系石器群の出現過程を、社会・生態学的観点から追究した。特に各地の国府系石器群の出現が、瀬戸内地方からの人の移動を背景とするのか、地域社会問の情報伝播を背景とすると解釈するのかについて、理論的根拠を有したモデルが必要である。本研究では、各方面で成果を得ている身体技法論に基づいた石器製作の動作連鎖(身体技法)を手掛かりに、国府系石器群の荷担者の系統的由来を解釈するモデルの構築に成功した。このモデルから、国府系石器群の形成過程の背景にある複雑な地域社会間交渉関係、すなわち、瀬戸内東部集団の広域移住(東北・北陸・北関東・東海西部・西北九州)と、移住集団を発信源とした地域単位での情報受容という、具体的プロセスを初めて解明した。瀬戸内集団が運んだ、国府系石器群を特徴づける国府型ナイフ形石器製作技術情報は、列島の広い範囲で資源開発戦略の転換が生じた時期に必要とされた、新たな石器製作技術の一つとして、製作に要する条件が整っている地域で受容されたことが分かった。しかし、国府型ナイフ形石器は瀬戸内地方の地域コンテクスト(石材環境)に適応してデザインされたものであり、他地域では地域固有の条件を背景として、異なった役割を担う道具として受容されたことも判明した。また、この瀬戸内集団の拡散というイベントへの地域個別的対処を一契機として、当時における「地域社会化」という社会的変動が進行していたことも明らかであった。国府系石器群の広域展開と、その形成過程とを整理し、新しいモデルによって解釈したこで、対象時期に起こっていた地域社会間の動的な変動過程の一端を明らかにしえたと考えている。
