本研究は、記述者が文字を選択することの意識が何によるものであったのか、またその選択の結果が文字世界・物語的世界においてどのように機能していたのかをテクストの分祈によって考察し、その結果から「国」や「国家」に対する古代都市の人々の意識の一端を明らかにすることを目的としたものである。本年度は下記資料を中心に「国」や「国」と関連する文字について用字法の調査・分析を行った。【資料】上代文献:『古事記』『日本書紀』『続日本紀』『風土記』『万葉集』及び、正倉院文書、木簡等の出土史料漢籍:『漢書』『後漢書』等朝鮮資料:『三国史記』『三国遺事』本年度の研究はデータの整理・分析を主としたが、同時に古事記の応神天皇記を核として論考をまとめるべく研究を行い、その一部を研究論文「髪長比売考」(2007年3月発行(予定)『奈良女子大学21世紀COEプログラム報告集』VOL..9(予定))としてまとめた。当該論文は記紀に登場する日向「国」出身の髪長比売という女性に関する小話に焦点を当てたもので、この女性を巡る応神天皇と次代の仁徳天皇(大雀命)の関係と、小話の記述について古事記が意図したものを明らかにすることを目的としたものである。本稿では先ず髪長比売の名の意義を「長い髪=美人」とする旧来の解釈を否定し、古代の人名の用例などから改めて本来の意義を考え、次いで彼女が日向国の出身であることの意義を考察した。更にこれらをふまえ、古事記において大雀命が髪長比売を得ることの意義について、小話は応神天皇から後継指名を受けなかった大雀命が次代の天皇となることの正当性を示すために必要なものであったことを述べ、このことと髪長比売の名の意義に関わりがあることを示した。また研究課題に沿って、「日向国」という「国」に対する古事記の記述者の意識を明らかにすることを試みたものである。
