本計画では、主に日本を舞台とした国際結婚に焦点をあて、地理学的視角が有効なことを確認した。すなわち、国際結婚には明らかな地域差があり、その有力な地理的要因として性比の空間的不均衡ほかがある。また、仲介業者が重要な役割を果たしており、わが国で報告されている件数の少なくとも3分の1が、業者婚と推定された。現代日本における国際結婚は誠に多様であり、こうした多様性の理解には国際比較も重要である。
