東中国海陸棚域における基礎生産に対する黒潮起源水と陸起源水の寄与について調べるため、流速・水温・塩分・クロロフィル・栄養塩・乱流微細構造の観測を行い、栄養塩の豊富な下層水の表層への輸送には低気圧の通過が大きな役割を果たしていることを示した。同時に数値モデルにより、長江起源栄養塩の長距離輸送過程を提案した。また、化学トレーサーによる分析により、陸棚水での黒潮中層水の混合比が30%程度あることを示した。
