代表的な粘土鉱物であるカオリンを鉱物資源分布モデリングの対象に選び,前年度に引き続いてエジプト北部におけるカオリン鉱床の分布形態,品質の空間分布,および品質と地質との関連性について解析した。解析には鉱床位置図,化学成分濃度データ,地質柱状図を用いた。これらの空間分布の推定精度を向上させるために,カオリンの化学成分間の相関性,および化学成分と地質との相関性を考慮した多変量地球統計学を適用した。その結果,単成分のみを考慮した場合よりも品質の空間分布の詳細が明らかになり,品質を支配する地質的要因を特定できるようになった。今年度は野外調査と岩石サンプリングを2回行い,これにより空間分布推定結果の妥当性を概ね検証できた。室内にてサンプルの分光反射率を測定し,これと品質との関係のモデル式を作成することで,マルチスペクトル衛星画像からカオリンの品質分布を広域的に推定できるようになった。また,格子間隔90mの数値地形モデル(DEM)から断裂系構造に関連したリニアメントを詳細に抽出するために,線構造の分布形態を強調できる多方位陰影図法,および線要素のグループ化による連続性の良いリニアメントマップ作成法を考案した。これにより断裂系の分布とカオリンの品質との関連性が考察できるようになり,断裂系を通路として流れた熱水・地下水が化学成分の不均質構造を形成したと考えられる。さらに,地質分布モデル,品位の空間分布モデル,衛星画像解析による品質マップ,およびリニアメントに基づく断裂系分布をGISによって組み合わせることで,品質の高い部分の3次元分布と鉱量を算定できるようになったとともに,品質の不連続分布と断裂系との関連も解釈できた。
