本研究は、旧社会主義圏に位置するモンゴル国の首都ウランバートル市を事例として、冷戦後のグローバルな市場経済化と私有化=民営化の進行にともない現れつつある新たな空間性をとりあげ、その空間性が特定の知や実践と結びつきながら、どのようにわれわれの生を形作っているかを明らかにすることを目的とする。その際、焦点となるのは、モンゴルにおける2003年以降の土地私有化と、ウランバートル市の新たな都市計画という二つのプロジェクトにおける空間編制のあり方と、それらと相関的に現れる住民の居住のかたち、そして、三者の相互関係である。前年度は、近年急増しているウランバートル市への移住者の受け皿となっている市周辺部の「ゲル地区」(ゲルは天幕の意)と、ウランバートル市の都市計画研究所という二つの場所で調査を行なった。この観点からの研究成果として、昨年度に執筆した論文「ポスト社会主義のストリート」が、2009年3月に民博SER『ストリートの人類学』に掲載される。今年度はそれに加え、近年増加している、ローカルNGOによる「ゲル地区」における住民参加型のコミュニティ開発の調査、および、そのようなNGOをエージェントとして組み込むことによって、新たな都市計画の枠組みをつくろうとしているJICA調査団のゲル地区調査の調査を行った。この観点からの研究成果として、日本文化人類学会第42回研究大会(京都大学)において「公的空間と私的空間」(2008年5月)を、京都大学GCOE「生存を支える「地域/社会」の再編成」において「公共空間をつくる」(2009年1月)を発表した。後者はワーキングペーパーとして、本年度予算で刊行される予定である。
