現代フランス政治哲学における中心的なトピックとして、ミシェル・フーコーの提示した「生権力」および「生政治」の概念がある。多くの思想家や研究者がこれらの概念を使用して自らの議論を構築している現状とは裏腹に、フーコー自身の体系の中でどのように位置づけられるのかということは究明されてこなかった。今年度の研究は、フーコーの思考体系の中で、「生権力」「生政治」がどのように位置づけられるべきなのかということを探求し、そのことを通して、政治的なものにおける人間の生物性をどのように捉えることができるかということを研究の課題とした。具体的には次の三点を明らかにした。第一に、人間学批判というフーコーの主要なモチーフと「生」がどのような関係にあるか。第二に、生物学の科学認識論を引き継いだフーコーが、生物学的なものと社会的なものとの交点を思考するための源泉として、カンギレムの哲学を参照していたこと。第三に、暗黙の批判的前提としていたハイデガー存在論との関係。以上を通して、現代フランスのみならず、政治的なものを巡る哲学的な思考において最も重要な思想家の一人と見なされるフーコーの諸著作の意義を明らかにした。
