本研究では,人の学習を支える知的好奇心を感情という観点から捉え,実験心理学的手法と神経科学的手法を併用し,感情が学習にどのような影響を与えるのかを明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度は,前年度から継続中の実験を引き続き行った。まず,一口に感情と言っても,その内容によって認知的処理には異なる影響を与える可能性がある。そこで感情的刺激の種類の違いに関する行動実験とfMRI実験を行った。その結果,人間の生存に関係する感情刺激(生存関連感情刺激:死体・食べ物)は,社会生活に関連した感情刺激(社会関連感情刺激:偏見・笑顔)に比べて,自動的に注意を向けられやすいこと,自動的に記憶がなされやすいことが明らかになった。先行研究では感情が注意や記憶に与える影響を覚醒という概念で説明してきたが,覚醒の影響を統計的に統制しても,生存関連感情刺激の効果が認められることも明らかとなった。また,生存関連感情刺激に比べて,社会関連感情刺激はより高次の脳領域(前頭葉内側部など)に支えられていることが示された。第二に,感情が認知的処理に与える影響の文化的な側面を検討するため,日米のサンプルを用いて,感情が記憶に与える影響の文化差を調べた。その結果,日本人はネガティブ刺激を自動的に記憶しやすいのに対して,アメリカ人はポジティブ刺激を自動的に記憶しやすい傾向があることが示された。ここまで述べた研究では,感情を喚起する刺激自体に関する認知的処理に焦点を当ててきた。それでは,感情的刺激は他の刺激の処理にはどのような影響を与えるのだろうか。この点について検討するため,感情が他の刺激の処理に与える影響について,行動実験による検討を行った。その結果,ネガティブ感情が喚起されると,他の刺激に対する意味的処理が阻害されることが明らかになった。ただし,ネガティブ感情は知覚的処理には影響を与えないことが明らかになった。最後に,知的好奇心そのものに関する神経科学的研究を行った。具体的にはfMRIを用いて,知的好奇心を喚起する課題と,喚起しない課題とで,どのような脳部位が活動するのかを検討した。その結果,知的好奇心には,尾状核といった低次の報酬に関わる脳部位が関与していることが明らかになった。
