平成20年度は、おおむね「研究実施計画」に沿いながら、「研究の目的」に明記した以下の三点について研究を進め、かつ成果を数多く公表することができた。すなわち、1、熊本藩の中間支配機構(手永)が有した財源・備荒貯蓄などの資産に関する研究、2、西南戦争期の民衆運動と旧金納郷士層との関係を明らかにする研究、3、19世紀後半の地域社会のリーダー層の存在形態について、明治維新を挟んだその長期的な変容過程を明らかにする研究の三点である。1については研究の成果を、「近代移行期の地域資産をめぐる官と民」「明治20年代旧熊本藩領における『民属金下戻運動』」という二つの学術論文として、公表することができた。以上の成果により、これまで先行研究で未解明であった近世後期の中間支配機構(村連合)がもつ巨額資産の性格と、そうした資産の存在が近代地域社会の水利土木・医療・教育などのインフラ形成基盤となった事実が明らかになった。2の成果については、「農民一揆と地方民会」という学術論文として公表できた。従来、明治維新以後の旧金納郷士の動向についてはほぼ未解明であったが、この研究により、明治10年の西南戦争期に発生した農民一揆に多くの旧金納郷士たちが参加した事実が明らかになった。3の成果については、吉村豊雄他編『熊本藩の地域社会と行政』に、「近世地方役人から近代区町村吏へ」という学術論文として公表できた。この研究で、維新後に地域近代化を支えた地方行政スタッフ(区町村吏)の多くが、近世後期の村役人集団から輩出されたことが初めて明らかになった。

In 2010, the following three points were recorded in the "Research Implementation Plan" and the "Research Objective": 1. Research on the relationship between the popular movement and the old Jinshi stratum during the Southwest War; 3. Research on the long-term transformation process of the regional society in the second half of the 19th century. 1. Achievements of research on "Regional assets in the modern transition period" and "The movement of civilian gold under the old Kumamoto dominion in the Meiji 20s". The above achievements have been studied in advance and have not yet been explained. In the late modern period, the intermediate governing institutions (village associations) formed the basis for the formation of the character and existence of huge assets and the modern regional society's water conservancy, civil engineering, medical treatment and education. 2. Achievements: "Peasant's One Policy and Local People's Association" After the Meiji Restoration, the trend of the old Jinnaoshi was not explained. The study was carried out in the 10th year of Meiji. The southwest war period was born. The farmers were asked to participate in the work of the old Jinnaoshi. 3."Kumamoto Domain's Regional Society and Administration," edited by Toyoo Yoshimura,"Modern Local Servants" and "Modern District Village Officials". After the reform, the modernization of the region was supported by many local administrative officials, and the village service group in the late modern times was born.
