アンケート調査を行わず、中国政府の公表したデータに基づき、1992年〜2007年までの中国の全国的な失業率を算出することができ、結果は中国政府の公表したデータの5倍となっている。中国の失業率がすでに20%に近いという外界の風聞や推測に確証を提供した。さらにFDIと都市部失業率との関係を究明するため、修正したHarris-Todaroモデルを開発し、シミュレーション結果によってFDIが被投資国のGDPを増加させるが同時に被投資国の失業率をも増加させることを示した。
