(1)Matsubara(学界誌投稿中)は企業の国内生産拠点の海外への移転に伴ういわゆる「(国内産業の)空洞化問題」を、自国への逆輸入を伴うモデルで理論分析した。主な結果として、不況時の労働者に対する政策としてよく議論される自国の最低賃金の引き上げが、国内他産業の賃金や企業の立地などに対する影響を通じて、必ずしも自国の労働者/消費者の利益にならないことを示した。(2)松原(2009)は輸出入に加えていくつかの地域における企業の海外生産活動の指標(海外現地法人雇用者数と売上高)が1980年からの20年間において日本の製造業の雇用に有意な影響を与えたことや推定された効果が負の効果のみではなかったこと、海外生産活動の効果は小事業所規模でより大きくなることや、1980年代に比べて90年代により大きくなったことを実証した。(3)Choi and Matsubara(2007)は日本の都道府県県庁所在市間の品目別消費者物価指数の都市間での収束の問題を、ショックが起きた後の収束のスピードや貿易財・非貿易財といった財・サービスの性質、構造変化や都市規模、都市間距離などについて実証分析した。複数の収束の指標でショックの半減期は2年以内であることや、品目間の収束スピードのばらつきが大きいことなどを示した。(4)松原(2006)は企業の個票データを用いて、外資系企業の対日投資の立地選択について実証分析を行った。対日投資誘致策の有効性と首都圏の優位性を示した上で、誘致策立案・実施における当該地域の産業集積、例えば関西圏の医薬品関連産業の集積を考慮することの重要性を示した。
