特定の幼児を中心として,年少時から年長時までの間,遊びの中でみられる数量理解としての均等配分行動ならびに認知発達に関する様々な事象を分析した。その結果,従来おこなわれていたような実験では明らかにできなかった,その場における子どもの感情や,保育者や友だちとのかかわりによって変容する発達的な行動をとらえることができた。これらの研究成果は幼児教育における保育者の発達理解という観点からも重要であるといえる。
