頭頸部癌ではCOX-2の過剰発現を認め、異形成でも6割に過剰発現を認めた。PGE2レセプターに関してはEP3、EP4レセプターが癌細胞において高頻度に発現を認め、COX-2ならびにPGE2産生能の異なる2種類の頭頸部癌培養細胞を用いてEP3阻害剤とEP4阻害剤の効果を検討したところ、EP3阻害剤による細胞増殖抑制効果を認めた。COX-2阻害剤と同様にEP3阻害剤は癌細胞の増殖を抑制する可能性が示唆されたが、その機序はPGE2合成経路以外の関与も考えられ、今後のさらなる検討を要する。
