ヘルペスウイルスのカプシドは核内で形成された後、核外へと輸送されてポストゴルジの小胞で出芽しエンベロープを獲得する。これは他の動物ウイルスにはないユニークな増殖様式であり、その分子機構には不明な点が多い。本研究では、ヘルペスウイルスのプロトタイプである単純ヘルペスウイルスの成熟、細胞外排出機構に関わるウイルス側、細胞側の諸要因について解析した。その結果、HSVの感染によって核骨格構造にダイナミックな変化が誘導されること、ウイルス粒子の成熟・排出過程に関わると考えられるUL14、UL56、US3などの機能と役割について新たな知見を得た。
