本研究では, 大規模な群れの動作生成および表示を効率化するために, 群れを再帰的に定義し動作させる階層的boidアルゴリズムを考案した. 通常のboidアルゴリズムは, 個体数をnとしたときにO(n^2)の計算量を必要とするが, 階層的boid アルゴリズムは, 階層数を深くするとO(n)の計算量に近づく. 視点に依存して動作と表示の両方を簡略化する手法, および階層的boidアルゴリズムを用いることにより, 群れの動作生成および表示の大幅な効率化を実現できることを確認した.
