極性基を持つキラルT型化合物を設計・合成し、特殊な液晶相であるブルー相III(BPIII)の温度幅拡大に成功し、電界でスイッチングすることを世界で初めて実証した。さらに混合系においてBPIIIが誘起されることを見つけ、そのBPIIIでは電界印可・除去時の応答時間が温度に依存しなかった。実用化をはかる上で有用な情報が得られた。また、新規イオン性液晶化合物を合成し、既存のネマチック液晶と混合することで光学的等方相であるキュービック相が誘起された。
