This study has developed a linear actuator made of magnetic powder core, that is, soft magnetic composite material, whose magnetic flux paths through the three-dimensional direction effectively. The developed actuator has the thrust force of 250N when the stator current is 4A. Next, this study has clarified the static and transient characteristics of the experimental linear actuator by using MATLAB/Simulink. It can move 1mm when the frequency is up to 30Hz. Although the actuator made of magnetic powder core can reduce the iron loss, the output force is also reduced at the same time. The linear actuator with magnetic powder core can be used to the reciprocating applications by considering the manufacturing cost.
