IgA腎症の成因には粘膜免疫、特に扁桃が注目され、IgA分子O型糖鎖不全が証明されている。この糖鎖不全IgAの産生機序、原因解明のためIgA腎症扁桃B細胞における糖転移酵素遺伝子(glycogene)発現を検討したところ、IgA腎症扁桃CD19陽性B細胞ではβ3GalT、pp-GalNAc-T2、Cosmc遺伝子発現低下を認めた。なかでもβ3GalT遺伝子発現は腎障害と有意な相関関係が認められ、IgA腎症の成因には扁桃B細胞における糖転移酵素遺伝子発現異常が存在することが明らかとなった。
