胎児期に化学物質に曝露されて生まれてきた子供の、幼児期における生体応答がどのような影響を受けているかをモデルマウスを作成して調べた所、細胞分化に重要な役割を果たしているSTAT5という分子が活性化されていた。また胎児期に化学物質を曝露されたマウスの骨髄細胞から分化誘導した肥満細胞はアレルギー増悪因子(例えばヒスタミン、プロスタグランジンやアレルギーに関与するサイトカイン)を対照群よりも多く産生した。
