減数分裂期の染色体動態の解明は、不妊の原因究明や胎児の染色体異常において重要な課題である。我々は減数分裂の染色体分配に関与するシュゴシン遺伝子(Sgo1,Sgo2)のノックアウトマウスを作製したが、胚性致死であった。また、マウスにおいてSgo1, Sgo2遺伝子は胸腺・脾臓・小腸・子宮・卵巣・精巣などに発現し、両遺伝子は、細胞の増殖に関連していることが明らかとなった。さらに、その発現量はSgo2 遺伝子が精巣において極端に高いなど特徴が見られたことから、両遺伝子は異なる機能を果たし連携していると考えられた。
