フィブリノゲンは急性炎症時の血液凝固・止血反応において重要な機能を果たす蛋白質として知られる。高濃度フィブリノゲンは過度の血栓形成や出血傾向をもたらし、冠状動脈性心疾患や脳梗塞に対する有意な独立した危険因子となる。Bβフィブリノゲン・プロモーター領域には6つの遺伝子多型が存在するが、実際にどの多型が機能を有しているのかはわかっていない。そこで全ての組み合わせを作製し、同時に機能解析を行った。その結果、-1420G/A と-148C/Tがサプレッサーとして、-854G/Aがエンハンサーとしての機能を有することが示唆された。
