外来種や生息環境の破壊がもたらす雑種形成が問題となっている。雑種形成により2種が融合して1種となる「種分化の逆転」が起こることもあるが、雑種が第3の種として新たな生息地で確立する「雑種種分化」が起こることもある。本研究ではコンピュータシミュレーションを用いて、生息環境の改変が近縁な2種の雑種形成をもたらした場合、雑種種分化ではなく種分化の逆転が起きてしまう可能性が高いことを明らかにした。
