通所サービスを利用する要支援1・2、要介護1 の方69 名を対象に、サービス利用時以外での外出状況について調査を行なった。外出が週に1回程度未満の群は、そうでない群に比べて日常生活動作能力が低い、外出時の移動範囲が狭い、自身の健康感が低い、家事や趣味などの活動が少ない等の特徴があることが分かった。また、閉じこもりがちな群はそうでない群に比べて、有意な差はなかったが1年後に死亡や入院等となる傾向が若干見られた。
