仙台市の事例研究による、プロスポーツを通じた地域活性化メカニズムを分析、考察した。結論として、第一に、プロスポーツクラブ・球団の存続と発展は、地域における多様なステイクホルダーの支持と参加、さらには、ガバナンス構造の確立が決定的要因であることが考察された。第二に、プロスポーツが地域活性化に貢献するためには、プロスポーツクラブ・球団を支援するネットワーク組織としての実践共同体(コミュニティ・オブ・プラクティス)の生成と発展が、地域における学習活動の促進に寄与していること、特に仙台市の事例では、官民共同支援組織がその機能を果たしていることが明らかにされた。
