Effect of imbibition temperature on the seed germination of barley and rice

To elucidate the mechanisms of germination inhibition in barley seeds at high temperature and rice seeds at low temperature, the expression patterns of key abscisic acid (ABA)-biosynthetic and ABA-catabolic genes (9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase genes and ABA 8'-hydroxylase genes) were examined. Expression analyses revealed that the change of ABA content via the varying expression patterns of these genes during imbibition might be reflected, in part, in the germination inhibition of barley and rice seeds at high/low temperature.
