我々は胃酸によりポリオウイルス(PV)が失活することを見出したため、胃酸の影響を受けずに直接小腸へウイルスを導入できる腸溶性カプセルを用いた経口投与法を確立した。カニクイザルにPV 液含有腸溶性カプセルを経口投与したところ、小腸からの感染は成立することが示唆された。サル小腸へ効率的にPV を導入したにも関わらず、ヒトと比較して圧倒的に感染効率が低いことから、自然免疫の種差により扁桃や小腸組織内でのPV 増殖効率が変化するためである可能性が考えられる。

The oral dose is instilled into the mouth and the infection is established. The infection rate of PV was lower than that of almond, and the reproductive rate of PV in the small group of almonds was lower than that of small almonds.
