独立期のセネガル社会の様相を明らかにすることを目的とした本研究では、「ナショナル・アイデンティティ」の捉え方の変遷を追う作業が中核に据えられる。新生セネガル・ネーションの生成過程をたどってみた結果、それが「アフリカ性」の追求のなかから発生してきたものであったことが、昨年度までの研究で明らかになった。支配対象の枠組みとして創造/想像されてきた「アフリカ」概念を再定義する脱植民地化の動きが新生社会の基盤となったからである。よって本年度はまず、昨年度ダカールおよびエクサンプロヴァンスの公文書館で収集した一次史料の分析を通して、「アフリカ」概念がセネガルの知識人たちを中心にいかに再定義され、仏領西アフリカの脱植民地化を牽引していったかをまとめ、雑誌論文のかたちで発表した(13.研究発表欄、雑誌論文参照)。一方、この「アフリカ」的価値とナショナリズムとの分節点を捉えるうえで大きな意味を持つのが、各ネーションのリーダーたちが関わり、やがてそれぞれのナショナル・アイデンティティへと吸収されていくパン・アフリカ主義思想である。パン・アフリカ主義運動の中心にはガーナ初代大統領となるクワメ・エンクルマがいたが、西アフリカで初の独立国となったガーナの政策はセネガルをはじめとする周辺仏領西アフリカ地域に影響を与えただけでなく、セネガルで周縁化された勢力を取り込むなど、独立期の西アフリカ地域全体の情勢を左右するものであったと考えられる。本年度後半はパン・アフリカ主義思想の領土ごとの受容と、とりわけ英領、仏領2つの地域にまたがる運動の変遷を明らかにすべく、再びエクサンプロヴァンスの公文書館で史料収集にあたった。パン・アフリカ主義と独立初期のナショナリズムとの極めて密接な関係性を捉えることは、双方の思想運動の理解につながるものである。
