東アジアには夏季の他に春季にも明瞭な雨季が存在し、水資源として重要な役割を担っている。本研究の目的はその春の雨季の季節変化、年々変動及び長期変化の変動機構を高精度かつ長期間の降水量データ及と再解析データを用いて、解析的に明らかにすることである。H24年度の前半～中盤は、昨年度まで行っていた春の雨季の季節進行に関する研究に追加解析を加え、成果を英語論文で投稿する準備を行った。9月に国際誌(Journal of Climate)に投稿し、12月に査読結果をもらい、現在改訂中である。平行して、約60年分の降水量データを用い、中国南東部の春の雨季の年々変動に関する解析も行った。春の雨季の形成には、中国南東部への下層南西風の形成が重要である。春季の降水の年々変動はこの南西風の年々変動が主な要因である。この南西風は西部北太平洋域と南アジア・インド洋域との東西の気圧傾度によって決定されている。解析の結果、春の雨季の前半(2月中旬～3月中旬)と後半(4月上旬～5月上旬)とでは、南西風を形成する東西の気圧傾度の形成要因となる、外部強制力が違うことが明らかになった。雨季前半はエルニーニョ/南方振動(ENSO)に関係し、太平洋側の海水温偏差や循環場に有意な相関を持つ。後半は、むしろ南アジアからインド洋にかけての循環場及びSSTの変動に有意な相関をもつことがわかった。これは春の雨季の形成に重要な南西風の変動過程が、前半と後半では違う可能性を示唆している。窒素循環に関する共同研究は、解析結果等を共同研究者と検討し、論文にまとめられるように準備中である。
