1.インドシナ半島における夏季降水量の経年変動インドシナ半島全体の60地点の降水量資料を用い,夏のモンスーン季(5〜9月)降水量を表す指標を定義して,その経年変化について調べた.インドシナ半島における夏季降水量の年々変動と,他の気候要素との対応は,1970年代後半を境として大きく異なる.1970年代半ばまで認められたインド降水量との有意な正相関が,1980年代以降みられ1なくなる.またインドシナ半島の降水量と風の場の年々変動を比較した結果,1962〜76年では,インドシナ半島上空の対流圏下層における西風モンスーンが弱い年に雨が多いのに対し,1981〜2001年においては,インドシナ半島上空の下層における西風モンスーンが強い年に雨が多い.このような違いの原因として,年代によるウォーカー循環偏差の変動中心の位置やENSOの周期性の違いが考えられ,インドモンスーンと西部北太平洋モンスーンという,2つのモンスーン気流系の狭間に位置するインドシナ半島では,一見正反対の循環偏差が降雨の多寡をもたらす,モンスーン変動のシステムが存在することが明らかとなった.2.日本における盛夏季前後の数十年規模変動日本中西部における,盛夏季前後の気候要素には数十年規模の変動がみられる.7月後半〜8月前半にかけては,従来指摘されている,近年の寒帯気団の強化や梅雨前線帯に伴い,1980年以降の低日照化や多雨化が指摘できる.またこの変化は中国東部においても,降水帯北上の遅れとして現れている.一方で8月後半については1984年以降,中部日本の太平洋側を中心に,高温・高日照化や降水量の減少がみられた.一方で南西諸島や台湾北部などではこの時期の降水量が増加している.これに関連して,台風の中部日本への接近数減少や太平洋高気圧の西方への張り出し持続が認められた.
