加齢性内耳障害の予防・治療を目的に、基礎的研究では内耳にklotho、SOD、TRPチャネル28個が存在し、感覚細胞の興奮伝達、内リンパの恒常性の調節や内耳障害の軽減に働くこと、加齢によりSOD、klotho、TRPV5、6の発現が低下し内耳障害が起こることを明らかにした。また、内リンパ水腫に加えてめまいを生じる動物モデルを開発し、めまい発作の発症機序を解明した。臨床的研究では老人性難聴での抗酸化剤治療の有効性を示した。
